State Convention: An Exciting Culmination Event
This year, the Oregon FFA State Convention is being held at the Expo Center in Deschutes County. State Convention is a place where you are able to meet FFA members from all over Oregon and make new friends. It allows members to talk with others and get ideas on how to improve our chapter. Last year, there was a motivational speaker that came and talked at the first session. All the sessions had a speech given by one of the state officers that helped everyone get into the right mindset and think about what is important and how to become a better member. There were also different workshops members could attend to learn different things about FFA, going to college, or just life lessons in general.
When members were not at a workshop, in a session, or serving on a judging committee, we were free to walk around and meet others. One area had poster boards set up about several different things members were able to go around and look at. A career fair was also set up where members could go around to different booths and learn more about different jobs in agriculture.
This will be the first of a two year run at the expo center in Redmond for the state convention. In an attempt to make this event even bigger and better, the Oregon FFA Foundation and 99.7 The Bull are sponsoring a concert by country music artist Jerrod Niemann to benefit the foundation. The concert will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 8:00 p.m. at the Bank of the Cascades Center. Tickets can be purchased by going to the link on the Crook County FFA Chapter’s Facebook page. This should be a great event, and will be a great experience for all of the members in attendance.
Overall, state Convention is a place to have fun, meet new people, and learn how to better improve your chapter, life goals, and how you think about the future.
